Quarter break is here. Due to the changes in requirements, the quarter isn't rush time any longer - we can't even take our systems down during quarter break with impunity. So I'm just sorta poking things and seeing what I can review to make sure things remain sane.

Space Empires is coming along nicely, a good daily distraction. Currently, playing four games; the Empires human-only game, the Comp-stomp, one for jynx and I to play (twinky, that one is), and one for jynx, myself, and Qoon.

I've cut my caffeine intake back about as far as it can go in our society - which is to say, I had green tea at lunch yesterday, woo, the caffeine, woo. :p I'm trying out Sobe's Mr Green stuff, which is caffeine free, but has ginseng in it. So far, not sure of any effect and the stuff is _way_ too sugary.

Got a check from my father yesterday, yay! Money is always good. I need to try to actually visit him at one point when I'm up north - I see him about as often as I see Mom, since I'm usually visiting on weekends when I get around to visiting Capitola. Things are still interesting financially - my fiscal rhythm has been off for the last couple of months. No problems, really, just money's been on my mind a lot and I haven't done anything about it till this week, really.

My love is probably coming down this weekend, and there will be much mobbing. As usual, her short visits are full up with stuff to do and people to see. Fortunately, I got her largely to myself last weekend, which is rare enough that I'm riding high.

Been listening to Chemical Brothers 'Come With Us' a lot recently - my most recent music purchase. More electronica, which I listen to a lot because the vocals I like are usually angsty and depressing, while the electronic music I listen to is usually more bright and energetic. Don't know why. Eh.

My GBA has gotten more than its fair share of use recently. Picked up Yoshi's Island for my own health and entertainment - the game is regularly kicking my ass, and I've gotten like 20 hours out of it already. Thank god Nintendo knows how to make a good game. Heck, this one's even family friendly. My standard game purchase style has come in handy again - I'm burnt out on Yosh, so I fall back to something I purchased a while ago and never really played, and now I can enjoy that for a while. I do that with games - buy them now for use sometime in the far future. My attitude is "I know I'll like that even if I can't play it now, and I might not have the money for it later". Sure enough, I don't. Besides, I didn't want to play Tactics Ogre because I was under the impression that Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was coming out soon. Well, the people I talked to were correct. It was coming out soon. In JAPAN! I finally confirmed that we have _no_ idea when the translation's coming to america, and caved, so I'm starting in on Tactics Ogre.

I'm rereading Sandman yet again, this time because of my Great Books class I took last quarter. It made me realize that Gaiman was even smarter than I thought he was - Sandman not only makes use of the old characters from the great epics, his entire story is written as an epic, following the forms closely. My respect for him grows with leaps and bounds. And, of course, I love reading Sandman. There are so many great quotes - I should go and get the Quotable Sandman book if for no other reason than to save me having to go flip through the books to find the quotes I like.

Hm. Looks like Roger Rabbit has hit DVD... hee.

My grandfather posted something to the same list he posts his weekly reports, a short blurb on the day after the Oscars:

You know the world is changing when...
the best rapper is a white guy,
the best golfer is a black guy,
and Germany doesn't want to go to war.

For those of you who don't follow one of the statements, Eminem got the Oscar for best soundtrack and has recently been described as equally attractive to the teen audience as to the balding businessman audience. He was not expecting to win. He didn't even show up to the Oscars. His compatriot, who came to the stand, was in a basketball shirt and a coat.

Tiger Woods recently suffered from a nasty bout of food poisoning after going to an italian place the night before the Open ( I think it's the open). _While sick as a dog_, he proceeded to go NINETEEN below par, where the second place player was at nine below. He does this kind of thing a bit erratically, and he's apparently an insufferable twit, but he's a damn good golfer.

Germany... well, we know what's going on with Europe's opinion of the American government's foreign policy.

In any case, the statements are arguable, and possibly insulting, but in the spirit intended, they are somewhat comforting. We are making progress, dammit, will we or nil we.

Jynx's dad is in town this week. We still have an ant problem, though I'm going to call Manderley about that sometime in the near future.

Hm. It's funny. I realized this last night, but I'm going into an introverted period - probably just the usual cycles of mentality I enjoy - but I've been moving towards being self-supporting for my entertainment again. Maybe it's just a reaction to politics in general, who knows. But I've been happy to just sit and read recently than to interact with people. *shrug* Whatever.

Radiohead's new album, which is coming out shortly, will be called Hail to the Thief, in homage to our own dear Dubya. Apparently that phrase was used in protests after the skullfuckery that happened surrounding Florida.

So yeah. I'm doing fine. Better than usual, actually. Hey, Stride's coming - I'm all kinds of happy.

hee!

"The Owl?" said Mr Ages disbelievingly, "Noone sees the Owl... and lives to tell about it."

My mom sent me a shirt with the Great Owl from Secret of Nimh on it. I'm spiffed. Apparently there's something else as well, lost in the depths of the mail system. I wonder what it is.
