Programming angst

One of the standard representations of the 'geek' is the guy who goes home at the end of a hard day programming and programs.

Reality check has cashed finally: I don't like doing that. I think it'd take a three-consecutive-week vacation (note my current 10 vacation days/year) in order for me to start jonesin' for the codin'.

Result? I purchased webspace to redo my homepage, started out with the concept of getting PHP-Nuke working so I could add links and whatnot and make things all spiffy-keen and stuff.... Unless I get real picky, I'ma gonna end up making bare HTML and calling it good.

Of course, this leaves me with the thought: I must do something creative in my off-hours, or I may as well feed my grey matter through the garbage disposal a lobe at a time. WoW will only hold my attention for so long before the guilt of spending all my free time on something that will show no lasting improvement on myself or anything around me outweighs the addiction.

Philosophy and/or history books and writing seem to be my likely fallback. It'll be interesting to see if I can train myself to think actively and be truly interested in learning, again.

Oh, and WoW is finally breaking down my memetic resistance to netspeak. Particularly, I no longer find many punctual emotes offensive. I like this one: >.< . o_O also. -_-,

Occasionally I do this brainstorming thing.

Occasionally I brainstorm. Really, my brainstorming is a modified stream of consciousness - a consciously unrestrained (or, realistically, less restrained) flow of ideas into writing. These often amuse me. Sometimes they end up trailing into things I'm not about to put into public view, but this one was relatively harmless. So, since I thought of it somewhere in the midst of this (try to spot when. I know I can. It's like jazz musicians grumbling because music sounds different when you know someone's recording it... perhaps even if you don't _know_ someone's recording it...), into the public eye it goes.

Some music appreciation.

I was working up a list of Music I Like, since I was in a music appreciation mood tonight. The below is how far I got before finding that my headphones have acquired an electronic fault.

Few things short of politics make me curse more passionately than broken god-blessed headphones >.<. Real bloody buzzkill. *grumbles and pouts inna corner*

Music what is rad and awesome and, except for Zero 7, Electronic. )
