Freedom
I've read some short stories set in a small country (think built on platforms in the ocean small) which ran itself as close to purely capitalist as possible. The result was a culture which had freedom in abundance, and lacked in the equality-causing safety nets which our nation participates in. 'Freedom', they said, 'also means you are free to screw up royally.'
I handed one of my players a character concept, and allowed him free reign to screw up royally. I was not disappointed. If nothing else, it will have provided me with data on how the society reacts to this new threat. I have, unfortunately, used and abused the player by doing this, but sometimes it's necessary for proper effect. I take the blame for the friction.
My iPod is still sitting in customs. bleargh.
