philosophy class
Jan. 30th, 2003 01:40 pmPhilosophy strikes me as particularly demonstrative of an OLP lyric I recall often -
'Talking is just masturbation without the mess'.
Particularly in the case of Plato's philosophy, which I've been reading. Basically, it's all just being clever with language to try to make your point, and people trying to be clever with language to disprove it, but of course, Plato's point wins, because all the people trying to disprove it are idiots.
In any case, I found myself drawn into it trying to extend the rules of the theory of forms just because they're there. On the whole, the theory is inadequate and perhaps offensive, not to mention badly defended.
I'm glad we're done with the bloody Phaedo. I'll be glad to get on towards more modern philosophers, perhaps someone with a less absurd, offensive method of proving his points.
