First, I refer you to ragnarok_now's post about 3.5 for buildup and background.
3.5 is good stuff, overall, but I can now express my major complaint - I haven't been able to find a single source for all the changes they made. We've been playing three blind men and an elephant here, and that sucks rocks. I totally missed a major change because I haven't read through things from scratch, just flipped through trying to get a feel. Be nice if they'd post a nice summary somewhere... or if they'd wasted a couple pages somewhere to do that in the books. *sigh*
I can now say that _all three_ books are required if you're converting your game over, and a lot of the older creatures and magic weapons are probably due for a tinkering. That said, the feel is much nicer than the old system.
Oh, adding to the effects - Polymorph may no longer be a combat spell, but Baleful Polymorph is (it's a 5th, instead of a 3rd, but it's permanent duration and turns them into something Small or smaller, with a risk that they'll lose their mind for the duration. Very nice). They've twinked Divination nicely, so the casting time for the major div spells is much shorter (1h for identify, 1 action for analyze dweomer) and they've added some nice divination inbetweens, too (arcane sight is _godly_). I haven't gotten through everything yet, as I said, but so far, no more complaints.
