Thanksgiving
Dec. 1st, 2003 02:50 pmThanksgiving weekend was fun - most memorable I've had in a long time.
I'll go with highlights/lowlights and try to be brief, so I don't ramble for four hours.
Over the course of the weekend, I spent a fair amount of time helping Mom rebuild the server for the Craft Gallery registers - it keeps all the inventory and whatnot, backs things up... vaguely important. So got woken up on Thursday to kick that problem around, and spent a healthy part of that day beating on it.
Had a Thanksgiving. Just my brothers and mother. Food was wonderful, house politics sorta icky as usual, nothing I'm putting in my public stuff.
Pumpkin soup was really good, and some great pies, and the obligatory turkey/stuffing/potatoes/gravy was well done and traditional.
Spent most of Friday wrestling with Diablo II, just relaxing and playing. Watched the Shakespeare Santa Cruz Holiday execution of the Emperor's New Clothes. It was full of in-jokes and political commentary, was entertaining enough, but not as good as some of their in-house writing. Quite pleased to have gone.
Saturday was the Turkey Day Weekend Massacre. Half a dozen cases of paintballs purchased by my mother meant we were covered in welts by the end of the day - we played at one of Oz and Ty's friends' places and ended up in the river and bushes and all sorts of stuff. It was good, generally. The usual minor misunderstandings here and there. I shot Sam in the back of the head from about 6 inches due to stupidity, carelessness, and an itchy trigger finger. Apologized profusely, but wasn't necessary since for some reason my youngest brother thinks I can do no wrong with him. Sort of disturbing how much he thinks I'm better than sliced bread.
update According to sources, I've been caught on tape shooting him in the back of the head, so I'd better book it for the border. Oh wait, I already did.
That evening had cold crab and hot butter, with really really good margaritas. There's a lot to be said for playing the computer repair drinking game - I had to finish changing out hardware and making sure the server worked after I'd already had half a Cointreau Margarita, and then integrate the blamed thing into the store system again after I'd had the rest of it. A foolish mortal am I.
Train going home was only an hour and a half late or so, I'm pleased with that much.
