From the well-what-do-I-know department
Feb. 16th, 2005 05:22 pmSecond day of how to use the Sun 3510 StorEdge array class, we got to do hands on - after being walked through the process slowly and painfully. I was reading over the book and solidifying my understanding of concepts while the lecture droned on. Then I had to stop and listen because my compatriots were getting confused on stuff I was understanding. I didn't really see anyplace to voice clarifications without starting over on the concepts of the moment, so I left it.
Anyway, somewhere around 2 I started getting this quietly frustrated feeling while I watched things roll - it went like 'Damnit, I'm never actually going to be able to make this stuff work while I'm here, not in a real environment. One of the more senior people will get the project and I'll be stuck screaming in the back as people get more and more confused.'
At 4:20 when I was about to leave, Ralph stopped me and asked how I was doing. I said I think I pretty much have it down, conceptually, which is true. I do think I have it down.
He pulled me over to talk with Bala, the Oracle team lead, and told me I'd be working with him to set up Oracle RAC against the 3510s. We'll start on Friday.
... I don't know how to express in text the quiet glee I feel about this. I'm going to get to make this work. New tech that I've been kept away from previously, in my sweaty palms. I'm going to have so much fun!
