Ending of an era.
May. 3rd, 2005 11:14 pmThe long term inaccessibility of industrial music to the general 'pop'-listening public is over. Now, for a low low price, you can go and buy your own CD from the master industrial artist Trent Reznor's latest work, and ....
God, I can't finish the harangue. Any more than I could really finish listening to the CD. *sigh* At least he made the live album, and Quiet. I think poor Trent's hit burnout. Or worse... he may have become *gasp* well-adjusted. That'll take the angst right outta ya any day of the week, lemme tell ya.
The moment I had to stop was listening to his track 'Only', which is done in that sorta monologue style. Pretty meh... but suddenly I was reminded of 'Albuquerque'. The cognitive dissonance generated by the thought of Trent Reznor speaking the lyrical phrase 'flock of seagulls haircut' finished me off.
Ah, well. Maybe in another five years, he'll make something instrumental and beautiful, like Quiet, or some of his work on Fragile.
We'll see.
