Gah. Flashbacks.
May. 23rd, 2005 10:02 amOld job has come calling on me in the form of the immortal Long.
God bless him, he's been here in the states for most of his life now, and his English is still lousy. He's been asking me how to fix Jumpstart, which he broke with a dipshit typo. I can't blame him for that, that's the kind of mistake I've been making all month. His stubborn insistence on being dumb I can take umbrage at. Like when I explain the right way to deal with adding an interface to Jumpstart so it doesn't require a full system reboot (all he has to do is stop and start in.rarpd. no big deal.), he says 'I'm just rebooting to be sure.'... I told him that was Microsoft-type thinking. Rebooting a Unix system should be a last resort, not first principles.
Anyway, all his questions had me so wrapped up in flashbacks that I started trying to do my morning maintenance routines... on the systems I left behind at the end of last year.
