WoW Update, Sick, and LJ.
Jun. 7th, 2005 10:40 pmEarlier today, Rin posted something 'bout the return on getting an LJ permanent account. Never being one for analysis, I grabbed mine without really thinking about the _time_ it was being purchased for, but rather a) to not have to renew for however long I _do_ have it, and b) so I could show what amounts to a startup company support. While I'm on the amateur side of the blogosphere, I do see a lot of good community in the midst of all this, and I'd love to see LJ keep growing.
Sick. Yup, Sunday I was lousy, monday I was worse - to the point that when Crim called me in the evening, it took me a couple tries to get across to her that I was amused at the thought of her trying to converse with me via voice at all. It was _gone_, monday morning, and almost gone today. I've always found losing my voice to be a very unnerving experience. These couple days sick were almost harmless to my sanity, since I spent them all on the compy playing WoW.
Which brings me to the 'ooh nifty' bit. WoW has had its own brand of issues, being a brand new MMORPG with goals that differ substantially from the established set. On the whole, I've been terribly pleased with the game, as evidenced by the fact that I'm still playing, and it's had more than 14 days of my time solid. (/played is a disturbing, but useful feature). The only real problem has been PVP. PVP is good, yes, it makes sure it's not all comp-stomp silliness, encourages competition. Unfortunately, without set arenas for it, we've had a few small problems. Particklerly, a few of the key towns have been under almost constant assault, and with a 20 v 20 war going on at all times in a zone, your poor client bogs to a halt, leaving you unable to use most of the zone. Since there are particular rules as to who can kill whom, you're not going to get randomly killed, but whole ranges of quests are effectively unplayable thanks to the monkeys in the front yard.
Well, the Battlegrounds _might_ redirect all but the most determined griefers, since they are neat, slick, and much better venues for asskicking. Personally, I think they're fun. The matching system needs a lot of work, since, after only one game, I identified a small problem: if you get your buddies together and join an instance as a group, and you're all top-tier, and the other side is full of people who just said 'gimme an instance', you'll rock the snot out of the other side, because half your group is at the top of the range. Despite _not_ being on the winning side of this silliness, I had a lot of fun, since I got to pick people off and generally cause GBH all over. I crashed _twice_ thanks to a bugged corpse, which is the only reason I didn't have a solid 3-to-1 kill to death ratio.
Anyway. Yeh, WoW's still my major source of entertainment, even though I have about 50 different DnD books on my coffee table saying 'Write games, damnit!'.
Sleep beckons, and I *blows nose* answer.
