In an attempt to piss off the local conservative staff, one of my coworkers posted a link to the below article discussing a link between Donald Rumsfeld and the apparently broken review process involved in certifying Aspartame with the FDA.

My only thought on the matter was "Heh, a new meaning for the phrase 'diet evil'."

Guess I'm just jaded. Gee, a politician involved in some kind of shady dealings? Never!

Both articles, if accurate, seem to contradict your article and vindicate Rumsfeld's actions. The latter is a 2002 survey by the European Union's Scientific Committee on Food which cites a number of controlled studies which contradict the claims made of Aspartame's dangers.

I should clarify that the conclusion appears to be vindicated; I don't know enough about the approval process to comment on that.

Honestly, I didn't bother reading it. I don't really trust journalists at their word anymore, especially when it's talking about politics and politicians. So many biased viewpoints.

As far as Nutrasweet goes, I just don't like its taste, generally, so it doesn't affect me much. The one purpose I will put it to is sweetening fresh-made iced tea, since it dissolves well at near-freezing temperatures.... but my take is generally that nowadays, _Life_ causes cancer, so it's not usually worth worrying about, too much.
