issaferret: (comfy)
A recent article attempts to bring home the fact that when you're writing in a blog like LJ, YOU'RE SCREAMING IN PUBLIC!

I'm puzzled that people can so easily lose sight of the fact that unless they explicitly write in private, what they're saying can and will be used against them, if they're indiscreet. I hadn't thought about the potential for applying slander laws to blogs, and I suspect they can't be (it'd be like regulating the opinion page), but dear god. If you write something, either make it private or write it like you'd expect the company or person you're writing about to be reading it. I'd think this would be obvious.

I guess it's just the growing pains of the new medium which is the internet. There's a lot of cognitive dissonance surrounding correct behavior here, and people don't seem to have gotten entirely that it's not quite an ephemeral medium. Sigh.</rant>

Leaving this afternoon for Santa Cruz, taking the train. Should be nice and relaxing. God knows I need to relax.

Passed all my classes, though that trip to see the Leonids cost me a full grade plus in my speech class (since after that I slept through class for one time too many). Other than that, grades were better than expected. I feel so neurotic - I was really paranoid about that for a while.

I'd never noticed that Bioware has done an interesting reversal of the usual client-server situation: They offer their Dedicated NWN Server for free, and charge for the client (the game itself). Usually people offer their client for free and charge for the server. I understand the reversal, but it's still amusing.
