An article which Jynx handed me a few days ago suggests we're shooting ourselves in the foot in a broad variety of ways by letting the media machine feed us their ideas of how to express our feelings - a new cliché every month - rather than taking the language into our own hands and making our own expressions. Personally, I agree to a large extent (there were more points to the article, which I also agree with, but that's neither here nor there). In the end, I want to be capable of expressing myself more clearly (yes, more) than most vocal artists do, but lacking even that minimal skill, I can approximate this or that roughly with someone else's line - I quote poetry not because it exactly matches what I feel - I don't think that's even possible in any situation - but because it's more likely to induce a similar feeling in someone else. Just so you know, the quotes are _never_ the whole story. Particularly if I've gotten whatever it is I'm feeling pinned down enough to quote at it, I'm already one step removed from it - I'm recovering from whatever it was, or coming down...

No Leaf Clover, Metallica.

And it feels right this time
On this crash course we're in the big time
Pay no mind to the distant thunder
Beauty fills his head with wonder, boy....

Says it feels right this time
Turn around, found new high lights
Good day to be alive Sir
Good day to be alive, he said.....

Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
is just a freight train coming your way
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel
is just the freight train coming your way
