Operating System Introspection is what I'm working with right now - I'm trying to find a way to get an inventory of the hardware of the system - details which the system sort of has to know, stuff like how fast the CPU is, how much memory or disk there is, basics. I'm finding that while Solaris does indeed have it, it's a recent beasty - Only the last two releases have it, and we've still got some systems stuck three behind by software support requirements. So no matter what solution I'm looking for, it's always just a bit much to ask for it to support three different OS releases. Sigh. I'm just going to wave my hand at the old box (there is only one, really) and say that the time savings for the rest makes up for it. I'll look around to see if anyone wrote the tool I need for that old revision, but I doubt it...
