Please, please, PLEEEZE, for the love of God, Country, and your tender bits, consider that someone, somewhere, may, just may want to take your output and put it into another program.

EMC Powerpath gets a B. I was going to give it a C, but then I saw what a D looked like and I wanted to distance the two more: It doesn't provide much in the way of customizability, but what it does do is consistent and easy to parse. 58 lines of Perl code got me all the data I could need.

The A goes to Veritas Volume Manager, for giving me every possible desireable option, including the option to provide my own format (I didn't.) I didn't even need to reformat things. So, getting data out of it took me 20 lines for sufficiency.

The D goes to Sun's Solstice Disksuite, which gives its data in only one possible format, with little consistency and a lot of human judgement required. The code I write for this is going to be necessarily very non-portable and limited, because being comprehensive would require time I don't have.

I'm having fun. I just wish the clever Sun developers who thought this was sufficient would understand the pain I'm going through.
