*facepalm*
Dec. 9th, 2004 08:39 amA few years ago, Harry Potter became the hottest thing in wood pulp - Fantastic children's literature was suddenly popular, particularly if it was just a little dark.
So a few stories were snatched up by competing firms to make films in the same vein. A Series Of Unfortunate Events comes out pretty soon, for instance. One of the others was Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. The world the main character lives in is a world where the Church never lost power, spiritual science is the mode, and the question is: What exactly is a soul? Terrible things are being done to children in the name of the Question.
But it's a children's story, right? So someone picked it up and started writing a screenplay.
*sigh* It's with an utter lack of surprise that I present to you an article informing us that Hollywood's pulling all references to God and Church from the film.
I really like this story. I won't watch the film, I don't think.
