So this morning I finally got the bane of my last two months working - the Sun Portal Software runs the way it should. Now to document the install/config process in detail so it's reproducible.

It's amazing how when you apply all the necessary enterprise-quality requirements on a piece of software, tech support says 'Oh, we never intended for you to do _that_ to it... Even more amazing when the word 'Enterprise' shows up in the product name.

Other news... Jynx has been in town over the course of the weekend, much geekery has ensued. Unrelatedly, Becky and I have been playing Diablo 2 a lot. I ended up using jynx's encyclopedic recollection of twinkery to remember how to take that game to it's terminus. I need better toys on almost all my characters in order to actually manage that, but hey, what's a game if not an impressive waste of time?

On our Windows systems, we've moved to using PKI logon, which is, in my book, damn cool. What this means is that instead of having a password, I have a smart card and a PIN; this is called 'two-factor authentication' in jargon, which means that I need to have both in order to log in; just the card won't help, and neither will just the PIN. Makes it harder for things to get hacked, and the PIN's easier to remember than a big long password.

So yeah, I'm doin' just fine.
