Beautiful Bend, Oregon
Dec. 22nd, 2007 02:53 pmWe've arrived - we departed around noon on Friday. Dave likes loud music, but left me kind of in charge of the playlist - I introduced him to Infected Mushroom and Propellerheads.
Stopped in Weed (not a terribly notable town, other than having a really nice mexican restaurant. Real home cooking, that).
Left this morning in a hurry .... at 9. We wanted to make sure we got here ahead of the stormfront that was heading in.
We participated in a nice mountain pass, survived it, got out onto the clearer road with it all still frozen up and snowy, with us just at the leading edge of the snow.
Unfortunately, we got overconfident and Dave hit a patch of black ice at about 60 - we had warning, the guy in front of us was fishtailing a bit, but we didn't quite recover and ended up backwards in the ditch. Dave wasn't about to give up and we tried pushing out, but it wasn't really going to let us free. A good samaritan was kind enough to lend tow cables to the problem and pulled us out. No harm, no foul, a few frazzled nerves, but nothing worse.
The cabin's a shining example of its kind - every modern amenity, gorgeous and appealing, in a lovely wooded setting. Argue with me if you will, but I like it when I'm comfortable and luxuriating.
