Polycon is over for another year. I got to spend a weekend enjoying myself, encountering new and interesting gaming technologies (which I’ll write about later), and playing in SLO’s always awesome LARPs.
One of them, called ‘The Usual Suspects”, was beautifully executed (to the point of making the GMs a little nervous, even), and we’ll be writing a clone and running it up here.
Becky learned that World of Warcraft (the boardgame) is fun. We’ll be playing that sometime soon :-).
I played a little game called Shab-al-Hiri Roach - a narrative game blacker than Gloom. It was fun, and I’ll be researching that as well.
I had several people poke me about Monsters and other Childish Things and express enjoyment of the One Roll system; I’ll have to look into it.
In the meantime, my search for a superhero system I can get behind continues. Most recently, I’ve spent a lot of time working with Mutants and Masterminds. The problem I’ve struck is the same as most superhero systems I’ve poked; they have serious problems making a system that doesn’t bog down in math. Long ago, I played with Aberrant, but I wasn’t ready yet; the system seemed ‘too strong’ to me, which is another way of saying I was afraid of the power level. I think I’m going to take another look at it.
