Beginning rational analysis phase
Aug. 6th, 2003 06:08 pmStarted to punch out a bunch of drivel about what I'd learned about OSX today, since I'm beginning to do some basic analysis of the OS and what it can and can't do well. Suffice it to say I recognized it was partially-digested drivel and I have bit-bucketed it.
I'm beginning to look into working up TCO analyses of this particular OS and trying to figure out where it fits into the food-chain of Unices, and what I'd actually be willing to use it for in a business situation.
In a smart money-saving move, I've acquired a 14-day free subscription to O'Reilly's Safari Bookshelf service. It's cheaper than a book a month, and you get up to 10 books on your shelf per month. This means that while I'm looking into the Mac stuff, I can have a bunch of different Mac books up there, and then when I need to do something stupid like learn TCL because the scripting language I'm using to screen-scrape from a 3270 terminal connection to the mainframe is based on that awful ball of tripe, I can pick up a book on that piece of shit.
All for 10 bucks a month or so. Saves me on my wood-pulp budget and trains me to use a library. At least I don't have to fight for checkouts.
